ECAHS Business & Information

               Editor’s Notes:

Dear ECAHS Members & Friends:

Hello to all and Happy New Year.

As many of you know, December marked Pat Bobb’s last issue as editor of the ECAHS section of the Arabian News.  First and foremost, we would like to thank Pat for all of her hard work and the wonderful job she has done.  She will be a very tough act to follow. It takes two of us to take her place and we hope we can do almost as well.  Please bear with us as we mount up and take our test ride.

We are planning a new item that we hope will become a regular monthly feature.  We plan to have a write-up on one or two member farms each month.  If you want to have your farm featured, please submit a write-up and pictures (no more than one page) to include any information you wish to share about your farm and your horses.

Many thanks to all our members who contribute stories and photos for the Newsletter - please keep them coming.

We also plan to enhance the Crabbet Kids section and provide additional activities for varied ages.

You may contact Lynn at Mayhem Farm, 460 West Parkins Mill Road, Winchester, VA 22602, by phone at 540-667-5199 or by e-mail at lynn@mayhemfarm.com. You may reach Michele at 1411 Mercer Road Haymarket, VA 20169, by phone at 571-248-4063 or by e-mail at mefailla@hughes.net .

               President’s Corner:

Dear ECAHS Members & Friends:

Happy New Year! I want to start 2007 with a special thank you to everyone. I appreciate all of the support and help that I have received from so many members of ECAHS as I take over as the new president.

When you read this letter, Lynn Blake and I will have been to Cookeville, Tennessee to visit the Hyder Burks Agricultural Center, the site of our Celebration XIV. I wanted to go and visit with the management and view all of the facilities for myself.

We are having the celebration in that part of the country for the first time. We hope to encourage not only more of our members to attend, but to get new members from the states close to that part of Tennessee.  We also hope that the regulars who show each year will be willing to come, even though it is further than what they are used to traveling. I have several ideas to share next month on how to help those who would like to come from the east and northeast.

I would like for all members to advertise in your various horse groups about our next celebration and about ECAHS. Make plans now to attend and start making arrangements to get your horse(s) there. Gaye and I have attended every celebration starting in 1998, and each one has been not only educational, but a wonderful fellowship with other horse owners as well.

We have a celebration show committee and I would like to arrange a meeting with all of the volunteers in the near future. If anyone would like to work on this committee and have not yet notified me, please feel free to contact me at wmwhit@swva.net, or 540-320-4892. We are always ready to accept volunteers.

The Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on February 10, 2007, at the Mayhem Farm in Winchester, Virginia. More information will be published on our website.

You should be able to see our new website by now and, as always, we are open to suggestions and will post any announcements that we need to make.

I close this article by encouraging everyone to make an effort to see what can be done to make the Eastern Crabbet Arabian Horse Society even better, and to put those efforts into action.

ECAHS Certification Process

In order to show your horses at ECAHS sponsored events, they must be certified to be at least 25% Crabbet/Blunt Breeding. This is accomplished by pedigree research by an expert and the percent will be provided to two decimal points rounded up (for example 79.54%). The percentage requirement of Crabbet/Blunt blood to be eligible to be certified is 25%. Many horses that you would not think of as being "Crabbet" have the qualifying amount so check carefully.

To have your horses certified by the Eastern Crabbet Arabian Horse Society, you should send a copy of the front and back of your AHRA or IAHA registration certificate and/or a pedigree if it is not contained on the back of the registration certificate. If you are sending a pedigree, please include foaling date, color, sex AND REGISTRATION NUMBER.

The cost of certification is $5.00 per horse ($10.00 per horse for non-ECAHS members) which supports the printing of the ECAHS certificate, which is suitable for framing. You will receive an ECAHS certificate indicating the percentage of Crabbet blood in your horse(s) and this will entitle you to participate in ECAHS events providing your horse(s) is at least 25% Crabbet/Blunt breeding.

Send information and a check made out to ECAHS in the appropriate amount, to Pat Bobb, Certification Committee, 86 White Road, Columbia, VA 23038
